A town by the river

Katsushika Shibamata is a riverside town located on the eastern part of Tokyo. You can either take bus or train to get there!

From Tokyo station (40 minutes bus from Haneda airport), go to JR Nippori station and take the train going to Shibamata station via Keisei Takasagi station. The whole journey takes around 40 minutes.

“Shibamata Taishakuten” is a temple located in Katsushika Shibamata. It is one of the popular tourist sites in the town, as well as a filming location for many movies.

When you arrive at Shibamata station, you should take a walk around the shopping street that follows the route to Shibamata Taishakuten temple!

There are many flavours of dango (sweet Japanese dumplings made with rice flour) that you can find at Shibamata. It is only about a hundred yen each, and has always been everyone’s favorite snack.

In addition to dango shops, there are lots of traditional Japanese souvenir shops and restaurants that leads to the temple. You’ll never get bored of walking around this street!

Arriving at Shibamata Taishakuten, the town's "power spot"

When you pass through the shopping district, you will arrive at Shibamata Taishakuten temple. This place is a popular “power spot” to the locals, it is said to have various powers, such as curing sicknesses, prosperous business and granting a peaceful marriage life.

In addition, it is said that if you rub this polished statue of the Buddha with a scrubber prepared by the temple, your luck will increase.

Take a rest at a botanical garden, "Yamamoto-Tei"

After walking around the temple, you should definitely visit “Yamamoto-Tei” next. Yamamoto-Tei is a Japanese garden that was chosen as the 5th best Japanese garden by a magazine about Japanese gardens published in USA. Take your time and feel the atmosphere, the entrance fee here is only 100 yen!

Take a look at the garden from a tatami (woven-straw) Japanese-styled room, and you can feel the history of Japan.

Yamamoto-Tei is also a tea house so spend your luxurious moments here while drinking tea and eating Japanese sweets!

Go on a boat trip

Near Yamamoto-Tei, there is a port where you can go on a boat ride! There are small boats that will take you to the other side of the river.

Before there were bridges and other means of transportation, this is what people do to get around and in Tokyo, this is the only place that offers boat trip services! The trip to the other side of the river is 200 yen and you can feel the breeze as you travel along the water.
